Salahadin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, (krp.org)- President Barzani received a delegation from the Assyrian Church of the East today at his office in Salahadin. The delegation was headed by a special envoy from Mar Dinkha IV, the current Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East.
During the meeting the delegation expressed their support for the Kurdistan Region for its efforts against the terrorists of the ISIS. The delegation also conveyed a message of peace from Mar Dinkha IV and expressed, on his behalf the Church's appreciation for the Kurdistan Region's management of the current IDP crisis facing the Region.
President Barzani reiterated his stance of coexistence to the delegation and added that the Kurdistan Region is home to all religious minorities without exception. President Barzani also stated that the Kurdistan Region has been home to Muslims, Christians and Yezidis for centuries and that ISIS would not be able to alter that way of life.
Nazem Dabbagh the representative of KRG of Iraq in Tehran met Hajime Ueda the political counselor of Japan Embassy in Iran. Hajime Ueda visited the office of Kurdistan region in Tehran on Monday, July 7, 2014 and was welcomed by Nazem Dabbagh the representative of KRG in Tehran.
Hajime Ueda visited the office of Kurdistan region of Iraq in Tehran in order to begin his job as new counselor of Japan Embassy in Tehran and to get to know more and to introduce himself; and along with Nazem Dabbagh concerning in between relations of both sides as well as present position and future situation of Iraq exchanged ideas.
Political counselor of Japan Embassy in Tehran in this meeting appreciated Masoud Barzani efforts and Kurdistan region government, as deputy-foreign minister of Japan travelled to this country, for his collaborations to help refugees of Syria and to cooperate with them.
In this visit the representative of KRG of Iraq in Tehran insisting on good collaborations with Kurdistan region with Syrian refugees announced a large number of refugees of central towns of Iraq sought asylum Kurdistan region meanwhile.
Nazem Dabbagh to dissolve the current problem of Iraq and to have good prospects for this country emphasized this point that the future government of Iraq has gotten to include all groups, parties, tribes and religions of the countries.
Kurdistan region President Masoud Barzani called Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi today to congratulate him as the new Prime Minister of Iraq and wished him success.
In their telephone conversation, they discussed the unanimous decision by Kurdistan’s political sides to participate in the new government, and both sides emphasized the need for all parties to work together to save the country from the current security and political crises.
They both concurred that there is a good opportunity for joint work to ensure that the mistakes of the previous government are not repeated, and that the conditions and demands of the Kurdish side are met. They also agreed to work together to restore stability in the country and defeat terrorists.
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met Chairman of the Committee on Armed Services in the US Senate, Carl Levin on Wednesday.
In their meeting in Salahaddin, President Barzani and Senator Levin discussed the fight against ISIS terrorists and the political process to form a new government in Baghdad.
Senator Levin said that the people of America admire and feel very close to the Kurdish people, and expressed their support for the Kurdistan Region peshmerga forces in fighting terrorists. He also expressed his admiration for the KRG for protecting Yezidi, Christian and other minorities, and for the traditions of peaceful co-existence and religious tolerance that exist in Kurdistan.
For his part, President Barzani thanked the US President, government and people for their military and humanitarian support in this fight and stressed that the Peshmerga forces are capable to take the fight to ISIS terrorists provided they are supplied with the right weapons. He said that with the support of the US military air strikes, the Peshmerga have made several gains recently and they would continue to push the terrorists back.
Both sides agreed that defeating terrorists needs collective action and cooperation by all sides and that political progress in Baghdad has the potential to offer an opportunity for peace and stability in the country.
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met with the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird in Salahaddin today.
The President and the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister discussed Canada’s humanitarian and military support for the KRG, the fight against the ISIS terrorists, and the political process in Baghdad.
Foreign Minister Baird praised the leadership of President Barzani and the role of the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces for standing up to ISIS terrorists and said that Canada stands shoulder to shoulder with the KRG in this fight. He added that his country would continue to support the KRG with humanitarian aid and military equipment. Mr. Baird also paid tribute to the peshmerga for their sacrifices in protecting and saving Yezidi, Christian, and other minorities and for offering a safe refuge for them. He said the world appreciates the KRG and its leadership for their generosity towards the IDPs and refuges.
President Barzani thanked Foreign Minister Baird for visiting Kurdistan, saying that the visit in itself is a strong message support and solidarity to our people. The President also thanked Canada and all other countries for their humanitarian and military support and for standing by the people and government of Kurdistan.
Both the President and the Canadian Foreign Minister agreed that the ISIS terrorists pose a threat to the whole world and confronting them needs cooperation and collective action by all sides.
They also discussed efforts to form an inclusive government in Baghdad. President Barzani said that the KRG would do its best to ensure a genuinely inclusive government is formed in Baghdad.
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met with the commander of the United States General Command General Lloyd Austin in Salahaddin on Wednesday.
The President and the US General discussed the military campaign currently underway against the ISIS terrorists and the military support of the US to the peshmerga forces. President Barzani thanked the United States and other countries for their military and humanitarian support of the KRG and added that thanks to this support, the peshmerga forces have now got the initiative against the terrorists.
General Austin recognized the role of the peshmerga forces in the fight against the ISIS terrorists and reaffirmed continued US support for the peshmergas.
The two agreed that ISIS is a threat to the whole region and the world, and that confronting it needs international efforts and cooperation.
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani today met with UK Government’s Security Envoy to the Kurdistan Region, Lieutenant General Sir Simon Mayall.
The President and the UK government’s security envoy discussed the military effort by the peshmerga forces against the ISIS terrorists and cooperation and assistance by the UK government to help the peshmerga forces in this fight.
General Mayall said that he is in Kurdistan on behalf of UK government to coordinate with the KRG on the supplies of humanitarian and military aid from the UK. He described the recent advances and gains made by the peshmerga forces as remarkable and said that together with the United States and other allies, they would continue to support the peshmerga forces. He also praised the role of peshmerga forces for risking and sacrificing their lives to protect Yezidi and Christian and other minorities in the battle zones.
President Barzani welcomed the decision by the UK Prime Minister to appoint a special security envoy to Kurdistan and extended his appreciation for the military and humanitarian support that the UK is offering to Kurdistan.
President Masoud Barzani met with the visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif in Erbil on Tuesday. The two discussed the fight against ISIS terrorists, government formation process in Baghdad and other issues of mutual concern.
Foreign Minister Zarif stated that the Islamic Republic would always stand by the Iraqis, including the people of Kurdistan, against terrorism, adding that the terrorism is a threat everyone, be it Shia, Sunni or Kurds. He further added that it is in the interest of Iran to fight terrorism.
President Barzani expressed his gratitude to the Islamic Republic for their support in the fight against terrorism, and hope that relations between the two sides would continue to grow. He added that terrorism is a threat to all, and that cooperation is needed by all sides to address this threat.
On government formation in Baghdad, Mr Zarif expressed his country’s desire to see an inclusive government formed in Baghdad and urged the Kurds to actively play their role to help form such a government. He said the Islamic Republic would support any agreement reached between Baghdad and Erbil.
President Barzani stated that he supports the efforts to form an inclusive government in Baghdad, adding that there must be guarantees regarding any agreements reached between Erbil and Baghdad.
