President Nechirvan Barzani received British Home Secretary Ms. Yvette Cooper this evening.
The meeting focused on strengthening relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the United Kingdom. They emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in various sectors, particularly in security cooperation and combating organized crime, illegal migration, human trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime.
President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the significance of enhancing international collaboration to address security and humanitarian issues, as well as tackling international crimes. He commended the United Kingdom for its contributions to fostering regional stability and its support in advancing the security and administrative capacities of the Kurdistan Region.
Ms. Cooper congratulated the Kurdistan Region on its successful parliamentary elections. She expressed gratitude for the Kurdistan Region’s role as a strategic partner in enhancing regional security and reaffirmed her country’s ongoing commitment to supporting and collaborating with both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to promote stability and address humanitarian crises in the wider region.
The meeting covered several important topics, including the establishment of the new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government, the urgent need for the implementation of the Iraqi constitution, the resolution of internal issues in the country, the ongoing threat posed by ISIS, recent developments in the Middle East, and other matters of mutual concern.
