Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday met with Filip Vanden Bulcke, the Belgian Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq.

Both sides discussed the latest developments in Iraq’s political process and the Kurdistan Region, alongside the security situation in the region.

The President meets with Belgium Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, May 9, 2022

President Nechirvan Barzani received in Erbil today, Belgium’s Ambassador to Iraq and Jordan, Mr. Filip Vanden Bulcke.

The meeting focused on the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with Belgium, Belgium’s role and contributions within the International Coalition against ISIS, the latest political developments in Iraq, and Erbil-Baghdad talks.

Both sides affirmed the need to develop ties and expand areas of mutual cooperation, underlining that ISIS continues to constitute a real threat to security in Iraq and the wider region, and reiterating that Iraq continues to need the support of the international community.

Ambassador Vanden Bulcke expressed his country’s appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for confronting ISIS and for the sacrifices made by the Peshmarga forces. The Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continue assisting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

For his part, President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude to Belgium for their support in the war against ISIS, reiterating the need for cooperation and coordination between the Iraqi army and the Peshmarga, especially in areas with continued security vacuum.

The situation in Shingal district and the status of the refugees fleeing the area due to security concerns, the mission of the UNITAD in Iraq, the situation in Kurdistan Region and the importance of dialogue and common understanding among parties were also highlighted. Discussions also covered the issues of civil liberties and freedom of expression, the COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications, the latest on the war in Ukraine, and the developments in the wider region and the world were also highlighted.

President Nechirvan Barzani meets with high-level US delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, April 27, 2022

President Nechirvan Barzani met today in Erbil with a high-level US diplomatic and military delegation consisting of Ms. Dana Stroul, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East; Mr. Matthew Tueller, the US Ambassador to Iraq; Mr. Matthew Trollinger, the US Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs (Middle East) of the Joint Staff, and a number of US diplomats and military officials.

During the meeting, Ms. Stroul reaffirmed the US commitment to continue supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region politically and militarily and also to continue expanding mutual cooperation and partnership between the two countries. Ms. Stroul expressed the United States’ appreciation for the role and sacrifices of the Peshmarga in the war against ISIS.

For his part, the President reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude to the US and the International Coalition Against ISIS for supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in confronting terrorism.

Both sides agreed on the importance of Iraqi parties’ efforts to break the existing political deadlock in the country and to form a government that meets the expectations of citizens and effectively faces the current challenges. The unity and common purpose among political parties in Kurdistan and the continuation of dialogues aimed at resolving Erbil-Baghdad disputes were underlined.

The meeting affirmed that ISIS movements and attacks across Iraq and Syria are serious threats, reaffirming the importance of cooperation and coordination between the Peshmarga and the Iraqi army, with the support from the international coalition, to confront terrorism and to eliminate ISIS, which poses threats to peace and stability in Iraq and the wider region.

The meeting also highlighted the reform and unification of Peshmarga, the developments in the Kurdistan Region, the status of Shingal district and the developments in the wider region.

PM Masrour Barzani meets with Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday met with H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al-Qasimi, the Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah.

In the meeting, opportunities for cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, particularly in trade, tourism and investment, were discussed. Both sides agreed to continue cooperation in matters of mutual concern.

PM Masrour Barzani meets with Emirati counterpart

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday met with H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, and Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.

President Nechirvan Barzani meets with Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

Antalya, Turkey, March 11, 2022

President Nechirvan Barzani attended the inauguration ceremony of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum today in Turkey. The President is participating in the three-day forum along with other world leaders and prominent diplomats to discuss regional and global issues.

Turkey’s President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, and United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres delivered speeches at the forum inauguration.

The speeches highlighted the current global challenges, the Russian-Ukrainian war, the humanitarian issues in Ukraine, the diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, the importance of preserving peace and stability and the Vienna talks.

On the sidelines of the forum today, President Nechirvan Barzani met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The meeting focused on the latest developments in Ukraine and the impact of the ongoing conflict, Qatar’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the situation in Afghanistan and the wider region.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday met with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, in Doha.

Both sides discussed the latest developments in Iraq, particularly efforts to form Iraq’s new government.

President Nechirvan Barzani receives Ambassador of Switzerland

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, January 20, 2022

President Nechirvan Barzani received today the Ambassador of Switzerland to Iraq and Jordan, Mr. Lukas Gasser, and his accompanying delegation in Erbil.

Discussions focused on Switzerland’s bilateral relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and the importance of reopening the Swiss Embassy in Baghdad.

The political process and the situation in the country were highlighted and both sides agreed that religious and ethnic diversities in Iraq are the strengths of the country. It was underlined that all Iraqi factions and parties need to come together for the best interests of the country and reach a common understanding about the political process in Iraq. They also discussed the formation of the new Iraqi government which needs to bring all communities and parties closer together, strengthen the political stability, safeguard the Iraqi interests and be able to face the current challenges.

President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed the importance of stability in Iraq, and the collective efforts to resolve the pending disputes, especially Erbil-Baghdad differences which require political will and decision-making. The President underscored the significance of the constitution and the federal system in the country and said that Iraq continues to need international community’s support to confront challenges ahead.

Other topics of discussion included the regional developments, the bilateral relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the neighboring countries and other issues of mutual interest.

PM Masrour Barzani meets with UNAMI chief

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday met with UN Secretary General’s special representative to Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss the latest political developments in Iraq as government formation talks progress.

As the Parliament in Baghdad held its first session, both sides stressed the need for the new government to represent the interests of all citizens and prioritize the stability and security of the country, which includes a peaceful resolution to longstanding issues with Erbil.
