Prime Minister Barzani receives Germany's top official
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Tobias Lindener, Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
The German Minister briefed the delegation on the purpose of his visit to the Kurdistan Region, pointing to the strong ties between the Kurdistan Region and Germany and expressed his country's desire to develop relations with the Kurdistan Region in all fields. He also said that a high-level delegation of German investors, employers and businessmen is scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region in the near future in order to promote bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister thanked Germany for its continuous support to the Kurdistan Region, especially in the fight against terrorism and within the framework of the international coalition against ISIS. He also appreciated for supporting the reforms of the ninth cabinet, especially in the field of digitalization of public services.
The main topic of the meeting was focused on the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government. In this regard, the Prime Minister reiterated the Kurdistan Region's desire to resolve the issues in a fundamental manner and on the basis of the constitution, and pointed out that the latest decision of the Federal Supreme Court to prevent the remittance of part of the financial entitlements is another unjust attempt by this court to undermine the new opportunity to resolve the issues and the positive atmosphere created during the last visit of the high-level government delegation to Baghdad.
Another topic of the meeting about the importance of implementing the Sinjar agreement, the withdrawal of militias and illegal armed forces, the normalization of the situation in the region and the return of refugees to their places.

President Nechirvan Barzani meets with a high level delegation from Germany

President Nechirvan Barzani received Dr. Tobias Lindner, the Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, and a high level delegation accompanying him.
At the meeting, Dr. Lindner reiterated that Germany attaches great importance to its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and looks forward to developing its relations with Baghdad and Erbil in all areas, especially in commerce and trade. Minister Lindner also mentioned the recent visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to Germany.
The two sides also stressed the importance of political stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for progress in all areas.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude to Germany for its assistance to Kurdistan and Iraq in the fight against terrorism and ISIS, as well as for recognizing the massacre of the Yezidis as genocide in the German Parliament. Both sides agreed that ISIS is still a real danger and poses a serious threat to the security of Iraq and the wider region, hence Iraq and the Kurdistan Region still need the continuing mission of the international coalition against ISIS.
The two sides also discussed the situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq’s relations with neighboring and regional countries and the region, and other issues of common interest.

President Nechirvan Barzani meets with a high level UN delegation
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, January 24, 2023
President Nechirvan Barzani received Ms. Rosemary A. DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and an accompanying delegation including Ms. Jeanine Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, along with several other UN officials.
The meeting discussed the situation in the Kurdistan Region and the ongoing efforts to reach an agreement on the elections. The Election Commission and the views of all communities on the general elections, Erbil-Baghdad relations, the fight against terrorism, and the status of the Yezidis were also discussed.
In the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani praised the role of the United Nations in Iraq, both in working closely with the relevant parties in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and as an assistant to facilitate the solution of issues and to maintain stability and peace.
Regarding the situation in the Kurdistan Region, the President stressed that the ground is ready for political parties’ meetings, especially between the KDP and the PUK and their talks on the solution of the pending problems which would then pave the way for resolving the issues related to elections and the setting of a voting date.
The President said that Erbil-Baghdad relations and the recent positive atmosphere that has emerged for dialogue between the two sides and the efforts to resolve the issues between them, especially regarding the Iraqi budget law and oil and gas laws and the distribution of revenues, will contribute to further stability and peace in the country.
Both sides reiterated the significance of implementing the agreement on the formation of the Iraqi government and its agenda, as well as the need for continued coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq in the fight against ISIS, especially in the disputed territories of the Article 140. They also stressed the significance of implementing the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government on the status of Shingal.
Iraq’s relations with neighboring and regional countries, and several other issues of common interest were also highlighted at the meeting.
PM Barzani discusses revenue diversification with former UK Prime Minister
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday received former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair in Davos.
Recent developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the region were addressed in the meeting.
Prime Minister Barzani briefed Blair on the reforms of the ninth cabinet, regarding economic diversification, digitalization of public services, and improving the health sector.
Furthermore, the exportation of Kurdish agricultural products to European markets was also highlighted in the meeting.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani discusses developments in Kurdistan with King and Queen of Belgium
DAVOS, Switzerland- Prime Minister Masrour Barzani participated today in a special panel of discussion on “Repowering Europe’s Industries” on the sidelines of the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium and a number of Belgian and European officials attended this meeting, where Prime Minister Masrour Barzani discussed the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
The Prime Minister also addressed the reform process within the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, especially improving agricultural sector and farming productivity as well as exporting Kurdistan’s local goods to the European markets.
